The Deity of Jesus Christ Dispels False Religions

Posted on Tue, Jul 22, 2008

"It is written" is our greatest weapon against false doctrine.

In this age of uncertainty that we live in, there are so many religious groups out there who claim to be "christian", but who are teaching doctrine that is highly questionable. Some "water down" the truth, while other groups "twist" certain passages to fit their own needs.

There are a few groups that will visit you in your home and although on the surface they may seem like "hard workers for the Lord", when you start "peeling back the layers" you will find belief systems that are highly flawed.

One of the ultimate "litmus tests" of the "soundness" of the doctrine that is being presented is the question concerning the Deity of Jesus Christ. If the group "bounces around" this question, or if they deny this truth (ex. saying that Jesus is "a god" instead of the truth that He is God the Son!) you must be ready to challenge their belief system.

The best way to do this is the same way that the Lord Jesus did it as He was being tempted by satan in the desert. "It is written...", The greatest defense that any Christian will ever have against false doctrine.

There are many great passages that can be used to witness to these folks who may be trying to "witness" to you. Many come from the gospel of John, from Jesus' own voice...

In John 10:30, Jesus said "I and My Father are one" and in John 14:7 Jesus said, “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him."

In John 8:58, Jesus said "before Abraham was, I AM" (name of God in Exodus 3:14 I AM who I AM).

In John 5:18 it states that " For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill Him; not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God."

Jesus allowed worship of Himself in John 9:38 - "Then the man said I believe, and he worshipped Him", and in John 20:28-29 - Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”. Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

In Hebrews 1:6, the writer states "But when He again brings the Firstborn into the world, He says: “ Let all the angels of God worship Him".

The apostle Paul writes in Colossians 1:15-16 -  "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him". And in Colossians 2:9, Paul states by inspiration of the Holy Spirit - "For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily."

A question to ask is, if Jesus is not God, then how could He forgive sin and not sin himself?

We read in Hebrews 4:15 "For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin".

And in Matthew 9:2-7, it states: "Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.” And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”, But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” And he arose and departed to his house."

These are just a few examples of bible passages that clearly prove that Jesus is God the Son. So if you encounter someone that is trying to persuade you that He was "just a good man" or a "great prophet", take them to these or other passages that state the true position of Jesus Christ our Lord - true Diety!

We know God's Word never comes back void. If we use "it is written" in times when His Holy Word is challenged or changed, it is our best and only true defense against false doctrine and teachings.

Jesus is LORD! God's Word is perfect! Make it known today!

Amen!   We do live in uncertain times and there are many have been taken in by those who follow and teach a message of false hope.  The Bible says these things are written that you might know that you have eternal life.  These things are God's Holy Word which tell us that Jesus and God are one.  "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.... And the Word, became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,  the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.  John 1: 1 and 14.

The world will one day acknowledge Jesus as Lord. Oh for that day! In the meantime, the message of Jesus, God incarnate, in the flesh, needs to be proclaimed by all His disciples.
